Machines For Gourmesso Coffee Capsules: Nespresso®* Pixie Test vs. Nespresso®* U in Comparison

Nespresso®* Pixie Test Vs. Nespresso®* U Test Overview

For the last 25 years, Nespresso®* has fundamentally changed the way espresso is made with its patented coffee capsule systems. From classic espresso, Lungo and Ristretto to cappuccino and latte macchiato, Nespresso®* machines offer you a variety of coffee variations. However, the wide variety of compatible machines is both a curse and blessing for many consumers. Nespresso®* offers variety and makes the decision for the right machine more difficult. We tested and compared two of the most popular models for you: the Nespresso®* Pixie and the Nespresso®* U.

Nespresso®* Pixie and Nespresso®* U - basic differences

Both models are considered to be the fastest of their kind. While the surprisingly small pixie was designed to work as fast and effectively as possible, the U stands for simplicity and individual adaptability, inspiring us every day. Both machines have become real sellers among the Nespresso®* machines, thanks to their ease of use and high demands on speed and ease of handling. The comfortable coffee capsule machines pursue different approaches. The model Pixie stands for speed and comfort. The U, on the other hand, offers high quality at reasonable prices with individual design possibilities and is available in different variants: as U in the standard version and as U Milk with integrated Aeroccino milk frother. A Nespresso®* Pixie test vs. The Nespresso®* U test comparison reveals further differences in the following areas: With its compact dimensions of 11.1 x 23.5 x 32.6 cm and 6.2 lbs, the Pixie is the smallest Nespresso®* machine. The U comes to 11.5 x 25.1 x 36.9 cm and 6.6 lbs. The Pixie was designed as a particularly space-saving model. The U, on the other hand, offers the more exciting design with its curves and a water tank that can be roatated 180°, which enables optimum spatial adjustment by means of rotation. In terms of design, there are also differences in style. The funky Nespresso®* Pixie proves to be a colorful companion and is available in the following color options: Electric Titanium, Carmine, Brown, Electric Red, Electric Lime and Electric Aluminum. In addition, customers can choose between the different surface finishes Steel Lines and Steel Dots. The Nespresso®* U sets on more austere colors and is available in matt gray, orange, black, red, taupe and white. Both models offer a wide color spectrum that adapts to the individuality of the customer. A comparison of the water tank shows that the U has a 100 ml larger capacity. This results in a more frequent refilling of the pixie. Similar to the water tank, the U is in the advantage of comparing the collection container for used coffee capsules. While up to 10 used capsules can be collected with the Pixie, the U can collect up to 12 capsules. The real difference, however, is the insertion of the capsules into the machine. The Nespresso®* U has a touch-sensitive surface and a function to store the preferred amount of water. This innovative system allows automatic brewing and capsule ejection. While the drip tray on the Nespresso®* Pixie can be folded back to fill larger cups and glasses, it can be removed at the U to make room for glasses and cups. Neither of the two models has an integrated milk frother. The Pixie can be supplemented with the Aeroccino Plus Milk Frother to prepare cappuccino or similar drinks. The U can be bought as Umilk already in combination with the Aeroccino.

Nespresso®* Pixie Test Vs. Nespresso®* U Test - similarities

As already mentioned, both Nespresso®* Pixie and Nespresso®* U focus on fast and sophisticated preparation of espresso in the home. In addition, the differences between both machines, e.g. the capacity of the water tank or the size of the capsule container, not significant. Both the Nespresso®* U and the Pixie are intelligent machines that help the consumer maintain proper maintenance. An LED light indicates low water level. Another reminds you to empty the waste container for used capsules. Both models have automatic switch-off that switches the device off after 9 minutes of inactivity. The economic factors are also comparable on both machines: Both Pixie and U come with a heating phase of just 25 seconds. The U has remarkably low energy consumption averaging 0.076 kWh per day.

Advantages and disadvantages

Ultimately, when deciding on the Nespresso®* Pixie or the Nespresso®* U, the following arguments are crucial: the model Pixie is smaller, space-saving and is available in numerous designs. But the Nespresso®* Pixie also has less individually adjustable water volumes, a slightly smaller water tank and is generally a bit more expensive. The U has a slightly larger water tank and container for spent capsules, remembers the preferred amount of water, has a 180° rotatable water tank, is cheaper and a little lighter. The Nespresso®* U is larger, despite its rotating water tank a little bulkier and is available in fewer color options. In the Nespresso®* shop, the U with $162.50 is slightly cheaper than the Pixie with $174. In retail, the price range is slightly larger depending on the offer, but also here the U remains the cheaper alternative.

Which Nespresso®* machine to buy?

As with almost all decisions, ultimately the individual needs of the consumer are always crucial. If you have limited space for a machine, the compactness of the Pixie will suit you. However, if you are interested in the innovative technology of the U, invest in the U. An important criterion that comes out of this Nespresso®* Pixie test vs. Nespresso®* U comparison, the pixie's compact size results in more frequent refilling of the water tank and more frequent emptying of the used capsule container. However, the Pixie is the only Nespresso®* machine that is still made in Switzerland and has thus gained the reputation of a Swiss watch in terms of precision. No matter where your preferences lie, weigh carefully the pros and cons that are significant to you and then choose the machine that best suits your needs. Gourmesso coffee capsules are compatible with both machines - give it a try.
