Gourmesso is proud to announce that we have received the official USDA Organic certification for many our high-quality coffee pods for Nespresso machines! This certification, by definition, means that these coffees were grown and processed in ways that are sustainable to our environment and free from harmful pesticides. Organically grown products also help “improve water quality, conserve energy, increase biodiversity, and contribute to soil health.”, according to the usda.gov website.
Along with our Fairtrade certification, we are proud to offer one of the most ethical and sustainable coffee supply chains for Nespresso machines in the United States. As of 2017, we are still the only company to offer Fairtrade and Organic certified coffee. Not only do these certificates help contribute to the sustainable development of our coffee farms, they help ensure that our coffee is of the highest quality available.
Organic certification means that we’re cutting out harmful pesticides and fertilizers that interfere with the quality of our coffee, and potentially consumers health. At Gourmesso, we strive to offer coffees grown with the least amount of chemicals possible, and within a fair supply chain that offers our farms the highest percentage possible for their coffee. This ultimately helps our farms ensure their long-term growth and sustainability, and helps support the local communities and families of our farmers.
One of our best and most popular USDA Organic and Fairtrade certified coffee pod blend is the Honduras Pura Forte. This blend is made from 100% Arabica beans that have been grown in the rich Central American soil, and our sourced from small, family-owned farms located in the heart of Honduran coffee country. By working with the USDA Organic certifying agencies and Fairtrade International, we have a direct connection to our farmers, and can offer them more direct investments in their produce, rather than cutting a profit to the middle-men coffee traders. These certifying agencies also make it possible to develop and ensure sustainable farming practices carried out by these farms, which in turn lead to better quality coffees.
While Fairtrade International focuses more on the development of emerging markets and sustainable practices throughout the developing world, the USDA Organic certificate helps ensure these farms are brought into the growing movement of a higher quality food supply chain. This work includes focusing on improving soil health, and preventing things like pollution and erosion. It also includes a focus on holistic practices of soil and crop management, by avoiding harmful chemicals and pesticides.
