In order to make the perfect cappuccino with your Nespresso machine you will need: an espresso coffee capsule of your choice, cold milk, white sugar and cocoa powder as the main ingredients. You will also need either an Aeroccino milk frother, your Nespresso machine's steam nozzle, or the Lattissima Plus machine. Cappuccino's are easy to make, and can be created in only 3 minutes!

We also want to introduce you to Gourmesso capsules, because we're convinced you'll agree that we offer the best alternative coffee pods that's perfect with any creamy milk foam.

WHAT IS A CAPPUCCINO?

A cappuccino is an Italian coffee drink that is usually prepared with a double-shot of espresso, hot milk, and steamed milk foam. Variations of the drink involve the use of cream instead of milk, and flavoring with cinnamon or chocolate powder.

The way cappuccino's are typically made today is with a double shot of espresso. The second most important factor in preparing a cappuccino is the texture and temperature of the milk. When a barista steams the milk for a cappuccino, micro-foam is created by introducing very tiny air bubbles into the milk, giving the milk a velvety texture.

Which compatible blend is the best for making a cappuccino?

We typically recommend our darker, more intensely roasted blends for Cappuccinos or any drinks with milk. The more robust flavors retain their unique qualities despite the addition of milk and sugar.

  • The Etiopia Blend Forte is our second strongest and darkest roast espresso, with an intensity of 10. You can trace the origin of this classic drink back to Austrians living in Italy who wanted to enjoy their traditional Capuchins, which makes it the perfect base to prepare your next cappuccino at home. Also our favourite for cappuccinos.

Making a cappuccino with your Nespresso Machine is a simple process that can be done in five easy steps. Essentially, it involves choosing an espresso coffee capsule, making your espresso, frothing the milk, combining the milk with your espresso, and finally, flavoring it with cinnamon or chocolate powder.

Ingredients

  • One espresso coffee capsule (1.35 oz/40 ml) of your choice (our Gourmesso preference goes to Etiopia Blend Forte)
  • 1/3 cup of cold milk
  • White sugar
  • Cocoa powder

You will need

  • Cappuccino cup (5.75 oz/170 ml)
  • Aeroccino milk frother or your Nespresso machine's steam nozzle, or the Lattissima Plus machine

Preparation

  • First, froth the milk using the steam nozzle of your Nespresso machine, or the Aeroccino milk frother, and warm it up until it becomes a velvety froth
  • Choose an espresso coffee capsule (our Gourmesso preference goes to Etiopia Blend Forte)
  • Brew your chosen espresso coffee capsule (1 35 oz/40 ml) into the Cappuccino cup
  • Next, fill the cup with the prepared frothed milk
  • Add sugar to taste and sprinkle with cocoa
  • The result is a cappuccino as gorgeous as it is delicious
  • Or as an alternative you can prepare a cappuccino with one touch using the Lattissima Plus machine

Which other compatible blends do we recommend?

  • The Ristretto Blend Forte is our strongest and darkest roast espresso, with an intensity of 10.
  • The SFCC House Blend Decaf Lungo is a mild yet bold espresso, with an intensity of 6. It’s the perfect choice if prefer decaf since it works well in milk-based drinks.
  • The Colombia Arabica Mezzo has an intensity level of 7 and provides a velvety, floral flavor that is light in cocoa. If you want a blonder roast, this blend isn't as dark but still holds up with milk well.

We also suggest that you experiment with your machine and favorite capsules to determine which blends and proportions suit your tastes the best! We drink a lot of coffee. So much, in fact, that coffee is the world’s second most tradable commodity (oil is the first). Keeping that in mind, coffee is produced on a massive scale in some of the most fragile ecosystems, by farmers who often don’t make a fair, or even just, amount of profit for their labor
